Only when the Romans extended their rule into the Rhine-Meuse region did a written culture establish itself in our area.\r\n\r\nSince then, we know for example the names of individual soldiers who immortalized their names on their equipment. Stone funerary monuments and altar stones give us an insight into the religious worldview of the people, while maker\u2019s marks on pottery and transport amphorae tell us about economy and trade.
