However, transport by flat-bottomed boats is believed to have been possible downstream from approximately Bliesheim, allowing, for example, the transport of agricultural produce from the numerous surrounding estates to Neuss, where the legionary camp of Novaesium was located right next to the river's mouth. A stone bridge spanned the Erft there from the 1st century AD onwards.\r\n\r\nAt this point, the Agrippa Road crossed the Erft River on its way from Cologne towards Z\u00fclpich. Now heavily regulated, the river flowed in Roman times from its source near Nettersheim to its confluence with the Rhine near Neuss in numerous loops and meanders.\r\n\r\nWhether the Romans built a bridge for the Agrippa Road crossing the river, or whether there was merely a ford at this point, is unknown. It is likely that a settlement or watchtower was located nearby \u2013 as was often the case at Roman river crossings. However, archaeological research has not yet provided any concrete evidence of its exact location.","slideshow":[22703],"ontdekken_video_box":{"ontdekken_video_titel":"","ontdekken_video_paragraaf":"","ontdekken_video_iframe":""},"ontdekken_360_box":{"ontdekken_360_titel":"","ontdekken_360_paragraaf":"","ontdekken_360_iframe":""},"doen":null,"weten":[{"vraag":"Photo: map sketch of the passage over the Erft through the Electorate of Cologne \/ Source: HStA D\u00fcsseldorf, File Kurk\u00f6ln II no. 1960","antwoord":""}]},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.viabelgica.nl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/plek\/22707","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.viabelgica.nl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/plek"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.viabelgica.nl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/plek"}],"acf:attachment":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.viabelgica.nl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/22703"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.viabelgica.nl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=22707"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"plek_types","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.viabelgica.nl\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/plek_types?post=22707"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
