This walk takes you along the fast-flowing Geul and past a variety of stunning flora and fauna. The Romans, too, were already familiar with this fertile soil. They considered the Geul Valley a favorable place to settle, right on the edge of the Via Belgica. Valkenburg is therefore very proud of the physical evidence: the discovered foundations of an ancient watchtower and, no less, the remains of the Via Belgica itself.<\/p>\n<p>A special surprise along the route is the exact replica of the underground Roman catacombs.
