Roman finds in Museum Valkenburg

Grotestraat Centrum, Valkenburg

Anyone who wants to learn more about the Roman past of Valkenburg and its surroundings is in exactly the right place at Museum Valkenburg. Various archaeological finds from Roman Valkenburg can be admired in the archaeology department, on the first floor of the museum. The finds each tell the story of the well-known Via Belgica route, which also passed through Valkenburg.

How exactly did the Romans construct their roads? And what about the activity and trade that took place along the Via Belgica – what did that look like? You will see it here. And that is not all: you will also get to know the inhabitants of Villa Vogelzang in the Ravensbos, archaeological sites around Valkenburg are shown on a map, and remnants of the wealthy life of the villa residents in the Ravensbos are displayed. In addition, there is a wide collection of grave finds, including the well-known Terra Sigillata pottery.
