Roman walks with a nature guide
Jekerdal, Maastricht
During a Roman Walk you not only walk a beautiful part of the Via Belgica route together with a landscape guide, but through his/her stories you also learn all sorts of things about the flora, fauna and the Roman past in this region. The Roman Walks have been specially developed for Via Belgica by the landscape guides of IVN South Limburg.
The landscape guides of IVN District Limburg have extensive knowledge of flora and fauna and are also specialized in the culture and history of the South Limburg countryside. Each year they receive further training to keep their knowledge up to date and to acquire new insights. In recent years, the Roman past, including the history of the Via Belgica, has been central.
Roman museums at home and abroad were visited, and “Roman” experts shared their knowledge with the IVN landscape guides during lectures and excursions. All this ensures that the different Roman Walks are full of fun and interesting facts, a wonderful addition to your walk along the Via Belgica route.
