Education

Heritage education for young and old

Heritage education allows both young people and adults to explore and discover the depth of time. They not only learn to reflect on the past and develop skills such as historical thinking and reasoning, but they also learn about their own surroundings. What lies beneath our feet? Which people lived here before me? What was life like back then? By immersing themselves in and reflecting on the past, both young people and adults understand the present much better and develop into individuals who are aware of why heritage is important to preserve for the future,”says Jody Martens, educator at the Roman Museum.

Via Belgica also makes room for heritage education. We are working on projects with our friends and external partners.

Example projects

  • Enjoy a treasure hunt for young people aged 12 to 14. Explore Meerssen and Valkenburg aan de Geul with your family or class
  • In 2024, 8 Romans, Batavians, Gauls, and Germans were brought to life using artificial intelligence. During the  LUX light festival, they came to life and told their stories on the facades of buildings in 6 municipalities. Between 2024 and 2027, we will develop 7 new walking routes with a podcast, where the characters will take you on a journey through their life stories.
