Reconstructed Iron Age farmstead

LVR Office for the Preservation of Archaeological Monuments in the Rhineland, Titz satellite office

The preservation, conservation, research and communication of the archaeological heritage of the Via Via region is the task of the LVR Office for the Preservation of Archaeological Monuments in the Rhineland. At its Titz-Höllen branch, a replica of an Iron Age farmstead provides a vivid and exciting insight into the lives of our ancestors in pre-Roman times, as well as the work involved in preserving archaeological monuments.

The farmstead from the 5th century BC, reconstructed on the basis of excavation findings from the Inden open-cast lignite mine, with its six buildings and furnishings, allows visitors to immerse themselves in the past. School classes and groups with guests of all ages are invited to visit the Iron Age farmstead and take part in the wide range of events on offer.

They can try out prehistoric techniques for themselves, and workshops and the popular ‘children’s excavation’ are on the programme for school classes. Things get particularly lively on the seasonal family afternoons and on Archaeology Day, which are open to all visitors.
