Tungri Goud

Davy Daniëls grew up surrounded by soft drinks and beers in his parents’ beverage store. That is where his love for beer began. At the age of 21, he made the transition to the real beer world. Today, his passion has resulted in a Roman-inspired beer: Tungri Goud.

Where did your love for beer begin?

In 2005–2006, more attention was given to the emerging speciality beers. That triggered me. I started learning more about them and discovered the rich variety of flavours. I saw opportunities there and decided, together with my friend Bart, to develop a beer for the Coronation Festivities in 2011.

Why the name “Tungri Goud”?

Well, Tongeren is the Roman city par excellence. We simply had to do something with that. Through my contacts with VIA VIA and a trade fair where I met the beekeeper De Kevi, the idea of working with honey emerged: the sweetness of the Romans. We experimented with the amount of hops and combined it with the local honey from De Kevi. This makes Tungri Goud smoother, slightly sweeter and exceptionally easy to drink.

I don’t actually have a shop. We are a brewery. However, you can buy it at the following sales outlets:

Beer crackers? Tell us more!

Whenever you brew beer, there are always by-products left over. Anna Pomarenko, a Ukrainian woman, started working with the spent grain from our brewing process. It was important to her to use food sustainably, including residual products. That is how our beer crackers were created: a light, crispy snack with a slightly salty flavour. They are packed with fibre and plant-based proteins. The perfect accompaniment to a Tungri Goud.
