Centre for Archaeology in Limburg – De Vondst
De Vondst, Heerlen
The majority of Limburg’s archaeological finds are kept here – including Roman ones. Dozens of rooms, hundreds of cabinets, and thousands of boxes hold treasures from the past. But this archaeological depot is more than just storage – you are welcome to think along and take part.
Visit the public space where all archaeological secrets are revealed. How does an excavation work? What happens to the finds? Here you can hear, feel, and see it. At the archaeological hotspot, you can even help out with the painstaking work of processing finds.
The Restaura restoration studio has glass walls. It is fascinating to watch the restorers at work on the most extraordinary objects. They make finds beautiful or whole again. Afterwards, the objects are stored or exhibited in a museum. This gives you a complete picture of what happens from discovery to display case.
