Amidst the beautiful landscape of the Geul Valley, walkers can fully enjoy the breathtaking nature. This walk takes you along the fast-flowing Geul and past a variety of stunning flora and fauna. The Romans, too, were already familiar with this fertile soil. They considered the Geul Valley a favorable place to settle, right on the edge of the Via Belgica. Valkenburg is therefore very proud of the physical evidence: the discovered foundations of an ancient watchtower and, no less, the remains of the Via Belgica itself.

A special surprise along the route is the exact replica of the underground Roman catacombs. The walk follows the route of the Via Belgica, passing the impressive Château St. Gerlach and other monumental gems.
