Roman Highlights in Simpelveld – 8.4 km

This walking route offers both a literal and a figurative highlight. After a steep climb, you reach the “roof of the Netherlands,” where you can enjoy a magnificent view. Looking out over this landscape also gives you a glimpse into the past: it was the Romans who cultivated this area on a large scale for agriculture. All those fields are part of the Roman heritage.

There is also an archaeological highlight from Roman times, as you pass the site of one of the most important Roman finds in the Netherlands: the Lady of Simpelveld. After this short but challenging loop, you’ve certainly earned a coffee with a slice of “Roman” flan.
