The Roman past lies openly on the streets of Maastricht. During this walk through Roman Maastricht, you will discover where the first inhabitants of Maastricht lived, bathed, traded, defended the city, worshipped their gods, and buried their dead.

When constructing the Via Belgica, the old Roman road from Boulogne-sur-Mer to Cologne, the Romans encountered the River Meuse. They built a bridge, and around this bridge a lively settlement arose. This settlement would later grow into the city of Maastricht.
