Local products, spelt and soldiers’ bread

Bakery Aroma, Landgraaf

The smell of freshly baked bread, Limburg vlaai, and many other treats. A fragrance you simply cannot resist when you pass by Bakery Aroma in Landgraaf.

“What’s in a name?” With great care and passion, Bakery Aroma bakes special types of bread, vlaai, and other delicacies fresh every day in its own oven. All prepared in an authentic way, using honest regional products. In addition to its own assortment, the bakery also offers other Limburg specialties, such as spelt pasta, cookies, fruit juices, and jams.

Spelt is an ancient grain that the Romans brought to South Limburg. It was cultivated on the fertile loess soils of the Heuvelland. From there, the spelt was transported along the Via Belgica to the Rhine frontier, where hungry soldiers guarded the border. Centuries ago, South Limburg was known as the granary of the Romans. It is therefore no coincidence that Bakery Aroma uses only Kollenberger spelt. This grain owes its name to the location where it was originally grown: the Kollenberg in Sittard.
