Roman Treasure Chamber of Meerssen – 7.3 km

In the heart of Meerssen you are surrounded by history. The old Basilica, the Proosdij Park and the monumental station buildings: you will admire them all during this walk. Yet the history of Meerssen goes back further than what can be seen above ground.

This walk takes you past places where Roman history lies hidden, sometimes just beneath the surface. Since the 19th century, people have been actively searching in Meerssen for Roman remains. Along the way, you will encounter the results: sites of Roman villas, statues of gods, and the presumed route of the Via Belgica.
