From 2027, visitors to the Euregion will be able to indulge their passion for Roman history on a route along new and better accessible Roman sights.

To make this journey possible, 13 partners in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany are working together in the VIA VIA project. The partners are Maastricht, Simpelveld, Voerendaal, Tienen, Museum Zitadelle in Jülich, Gallo-Roman Museum in Tongeren-Borgloon, Centre Céramique in Maastricht, Roman Museum in Heerlen, Via Belgica and the Erlebnisraum Römerstrasse. The universities of Liège and Utrecht (Constructing The Limes) are participating as knowledge partners.

VIA VIA is made possible thanks to funding from the Interreg Meuse-Rhine programme of the European Union, the Ministry of Economic Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Province of Limburg and the Regio Deal Parkstad Limburg.

The Roman journey will soon lead through 9 locations outdoors and in museums:

  • Tienen, interactive walk along Roman sites.
  • Tongeren-Borgloon, interactive walk along Roman sites.
  • Gallo-Roman Museum Tongeren-Borgloon, room with a presentation that appeals to all the senses.
  • Maastricht Museum and Roman cellar of Hotel Derlon, interactive exhibitions.
  • Voerendaal, interactive landscape element at the location of the Villa Voerendaal-Ten Hove.
  • Roman Museum Heerlen, room with a presentation that appeals to all the senses.
  • Simpelveld, cross-border Roman landscape park around Vlengendaal. In this area, a new Via Belgica bench will be installed later this year.
  • Aachen, Roman city walk.
  • Museum Zitadelle Jülich, interactive exhibition.
